Las Vegas, Mammoth and Film – Personal

Last week was one for the books.  It started with a fun trip to Las Vegas for WPPI with a bunch of photographer friends.

I’m not sure I ever wrote about my first time attending the conference but wow… what a difference a few years, some experience and self-esteem makes!

As far as I can remember I hadn’t even shot a wedding yet when I decided to get a last minute ticket to the 2008 show.  I was still in school and just toying with the idea of possibly being a photographer for work.  Long story short, I felt way out of my league and left the conference feeling defeated, alone and completely devastated.  I never wanted to go back.

Fast forward to 2014… I am a full-time wedding and portrait photographer running my OWN successful business.  Say what?! I know, it’s crazy isn’t it?  Well, I felt I owed it to myself to give this WPPI thing another shot.  Seriously one of the best decisions I have ever made.

This time the experience was rewarding, motivating, fun, emotional and insanely inspiring.  I actually had friends there this time!  I wasn’t lonely, feeling out of place or crying in my hotel room.  Instead I bonded with people I admire and respect in the industry and I am so grateful for that opportunity.

What a great feeling to come home with a fresh new outlook.  I even dug out my dads old 35 mm Canon TX and started playing with film again!

Thanks to the encouragement from some of my favorite film photographers, I loaded up my first roll and took it on a family vacation to Mammoth last weekend.   It’ll be a little while before I can share those images.  But just in case I completely botched my first try, I took a few digital photos so I had something from our first snow trip with M.

Here they are for now!

Enjoy. =)

Paramount Ranch Maternity Session – Malibu

It’s not often enough that I get to photograph these kinds of sessions but when I do it’s always such a treat.  There is something so beautiful about a glowing mama-to-be.  Claudia and Aaron are very special to me and I am beyond honored they asked me to document this very special time for them.  I am counting down the days until baby H arrives!  Can’t wait to meet the little guy.

Loooove the shots with the quilt!!! I also love how a location can look so different in a matter of minutes! You captured both scenarios (more light/less light) gorgeously! What a beautiful session.

Rebecca + Justin MARRIED!!! – Malibou Lake Mountain Club

Happy Thursday!!

Excuse me for being extra excited about this wedding but my goodness we’ve been waiting a long time for this one…..   9 years to be exact.

I’ll spare the long detailed story on how we all met and became BFF’s because I don’t want to bore anyone but just know that J + R are two of my greatest friends and so this wedding was so super special.

Not just to me, but everyone who attended.  There was the most amazing buzz in the air that night.  The room was SO full of love you just couldn’t help but smile all night long.  It was unlike anything I have ever experienced at a wedding before.  I mean, there is always a room full of love but this was different.  It was electric.

Enough with the sap!  I wanted to share a sneak peek of my best friends wedding while they are enjoying their honeymoon this week.

Justin and Rebecca – I know I speak for the whole crew when I say that I just could not be any happier for you two… seriously, its not possible.

Rebecca, I love you SO much and can’t wait to see what the future holds for you and Tek.  Ah!! Enjoy.  XOXO

Warm thanks to Miriam and Doogie for helping me capture this day.

Allison & Tom – Casa Romantica Wedding

Tom and Allison got married last summer and I can’t believe I haven’t posted their wedding yet.

It was one of the most beautiful and unique weddings I got to photograph last year.  The color palette was like nothing I had ever seen before and I have to say it was very refreshing to see a bride use bold and vibrant colors.   The earthy elements might be some of my favorite details…the moss, citrus, branches and wood wrapped votives were stunning.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the day.

A huge thank you to Allison and Tom for having me along on one of their most special days!  It was such a treat.  Also, a big warm thanks to Love Janet for helping me out.  It was such a blast working together!

Enjoy =)

Shannon + Kris – Downtown Los Angeles Wedding

So, I am sure you all can relate… these past few months have just been bananas.  Between Thanksgiving, traveling, the flu season, Christmas, my sons first birthday, New Years and of course work I feel like I have had zero time to connect with anyone.  Finally I found some time to sit down and collect some images from several of my weddings last year!

In a few days I hope to write one giant blog post with a handful of my favorite shots from all the weddings I was lucky to shoot in 2013.  While I get that together I thought I would share some photos from the last wedding I did in 2013.

You know I love my outdoor, rustic barnyard or field weddings but it was so fun and refreshing to get to shoot something a little out of the ordinary for me. I am really hoping to shoot more weddings like this in 2014.  I have always been a huge fan of Downtown Los Angeles and I must say, it felt really good to be out there for the day.  Running around the busy urban streets brought back so many memories of the days I used to spend out there immersing myself in art and music.

Shannon and Kris are two of the sweetest most emotional sweethearts I have ever met.  Their wedding didn’t have a dry eye in the house during the ceremony.  I would be lying if I said my camera didn’t fog up a little while photographing their vows.  It was a day and evening full of fun, laughter, tears and joy and I am truly honored to have been a part of it.  I feel like I can call them friends.

Thank you to my girl Vikki for making the intro!

Here are some of my favorites.
