Family – A real life session

Growing up I was always very close to my family and siblings.  I was a home body and just wanted to sleep in my own bed.  I was that kid that would go to a friends house for an overnight stay and ended up crying for my mom at midnight begging her to come get me.  I would fake being sick at school camping trips just so I could leave early.  I absolutely hated being away from home. Even now, there is nothing quite like that feeling of comfort and familiarity I get when I go to my parents.

Recently I discovered that I really enjoy doing in-home family sessions.  There is something so intimate and special about photographing special milestones in someones house.  Sometimes its nearly impossible to leave the house with a new baby and often times, kids just like being in their element with their toys and their things.

Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE natural, outdoor photography sessions but I think I was underrating the simplicity of shooting indoors.  I was intimidated and worried about the lack of control I had over the environment.

This is a collection of images from one of my most recent and favorite family sessions yet and  I can’t wait to do more of these “real life sessions.”

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the details of their home, but my favorite is the whole family on the bed and you’re shooting from the hall. seeing that door partially open and seeing them all wrapped up in each other is heartwarming and intimate. Love it!
